Classes & Information Available

We regularly have informative speakers covering a wide range of subjects important to beekeepers of all experience levels. Come to the meetings and engage in the Q&A period we get each month

In addition to the on-going education at the meetings we hold two classes each Spring. Here is what we are planning for 2018.

Beekeeping 101

An introduction to Beekeeping

Beekeeping class provided by El Dorado Backyard Beekeepers

This informal forum will have six seperate mini-classes. Each will be presented by one of our members and present multiple opportunities to ask questions and interact with the presenter. 

WHEN:  Sunday, Febuary 11th   9:00 AM - 4:00 pm 

 Please arrive no later than 8:45 to sign in as we hope to start class on time.

COST: $20 per member; $50 per non-member (or join and get membership for the year!). Lunch is included.   Register on-line or contact us if you prefer to use check. Registration at the door if space is available (check or cash only).      

Location:  Placerville Senior Center

Beekeeper 101 class topics will included:  Topics will include: Description of bee society, Equipment- Hive and Beekeeper, The Environment for the Hive, Disease and Pests, The Hive - Throughout the Year, & Inside the hive: This class will not include the details for installing bee package into the hive; that information will be covered when bee packages are picked up.

This class will help as you get the equipment and skills you need to become a sucessful Beekeeper.

Beekeeper 102 class topics have previously included: Comb Management, Ventilation, Harvesting (crush & strain; using extractor), Top Bar Hives; Management of Hives; Pest Management, Doing a Mite Count and more. This class will help as you move into your second season and beyond!

Beginning Beekeeping class was held on Feb 17th. We will have another beginning Beekeeping class early in 2018. You can join at the same time if you'd like and save money on class. Come to our meetings every month.

'Beginning Beekeeping' was again be presented by our second generation master Beekeeper (ask to see the pix of him as a boy loading migratory hives!) Bruce Trescot. Classes are open to all but at a discount for members (another reason to join) and will be held Sat., Feb. 18. He had beekeeping equipment for sale. Members can order bees through EDBBK. An ideal oportunity to see, hear, touch and purchase all you need before you get your bees. Details (location, time, costs) are on the Home Page.

'Beekeeping:  Now That You Have Bees...' is scheduled for Sat., April 1 - this will cover the things you would want to know for your second (and beyond) year of beekeeping. You have mastered handling the hive, had your bees last through the winter... Now what? These are the next steps.

The Master Gardeners (held - just happened) a class Sat 1/28/17 that includes a very brief Intro to Beekeeping.
